I had to send the first one back due to the FM transmitter/receiver didn't work upon arrival. Amazon was great and immediately sent out a replacement. It locked up (screen froze and stopped playing) almost every time we used it. I had two within a month and sent them both back and won't purchase another. Very poor quality.

I purchased the Latte Espresso because it seemed like a great value. Caveat- you really do get what you pay for! The Espresso looks like a toy, and performs like one as well. My player sufferd from frequent crashes, and the touch-screen went out after only a month of easy use. The users manual included was not very helpful, and Latte customer support is virtually nonexistent. After several tries I was not able to get a reply to my emails or phone calls. If you like to gamble and can afford to lose the money this thing costs, maybe you'll get lucky and get a unit that you'll get some life out of. As for me, I'll spend a little more and stick with a better-known brand from now on.

I ordered this for the wife for Valentine's day. She spends a lot of time in the van shuttling our son back and forth to school, activities, etc. I got this player because Latte is the only manufacturer that I found that has the one killer app for my vehicles - an FM transmitter.
Awhile back I bought a bluetooth FM transmitter for her phone, but when I tried it out, the transmitter quality wasn't very good, and there were way too many buttons and settings you had to push just to get going. With this player, I set it to 87.9, and my wife pushes a button on the car stereo, and it all just works! She has listened to her player more this week than she has any other player over the last two years! She brought it inside and used it on two other stereos inside too!
The player itself isn't remarkable looking from a design standpoint, but it plays most of the formats that you could ever want. It also plays movies and displays pictures. Loading it is the same as any other player on WMP. Earbuds are pretty good too.
All this, and it cost $94 for 16gig. Wow...
However, with this idyllic picture, what could be the drawbacks? There aren't many, but there are some, it's up to you whether you want to put up with them:
- Have a paper clip handy. I have to reset it every few days. Every once in
awhile the video codec gets hung up, or it gets hung up when I pull it off the USB.
- There isn't a memory slot. Don't believe the Target website that currently says it has one.
I ordered a 16 gB version, and it has plenty of room on it for my wife.
- User interface isn't great. Haptic feedback is pretty nice, and pretty well done. But some of the user interface
just looks not polished. If you have an ipod, and really like how slick the UI is, you won't like this little box.
You can't select songs by genre. And the "All Songs" uses the song filenames instead of the id3 tags.
I'm sure this is a lot quicker to assemble, but so many rippers (including WMP and iTunes) put the track number as the first
characters of the filename, that this feature is rendered useless. I wrote a little VB appplication to strip these
prepended numbers off, but not everybody is handy in that manner.
- have to have the headphones in for the FM transmitter to work, since they are the antenna. This isn't
such a burdern, but you do have to remember to that it works that way.
So: really cheap player that plays most common formats, has an FM transmitter (and receiver BTW), but UI could use some polish and the codecs are 99% stable. You can pay $94 for this, or an iPod touch for $230, and still need an FM transmitter. I chose to try the Latte, and so far it has been worth it.
Oh yes, I'm also not locked in to the Apple hegemony.

I drive an older car that has a cd player that is complete JUNK! I was looking to spend money on a new CD player since listening to the radio was getting old. Then I found the Espresso Latte. The Latte lived up to its claims of being able to tune my car radio to a frequency set on the Latte giving me the freedom to listen to whatever I wanted when I wanted. A good purchase for half of what I would've spent if I bought a new car stereo and an mp3 player.
