The resolution needs to be higher to be considered more than a toy Август 22, 2010 Y. Chang (Mamaroneck, NY) As this has been well reviewed, let me try to break it down to pros and cons based on my own observations:
Pros:
-It seems to do a decent job picking up signals-- The included antenna is short with a thin cable that inspired no confidence. Nevertheless it did an equal or better job than a HDTV tuner that I used as well as two computer TV cards in picking up and maintaining a working signal. Reception conditions in my apartment is very poor, so this was remarkable.
-it has a fairly comprehensive accessory set that lets you import videos, read SD cards, and connect media/drive via a USB port. It also includes a remote control, car charger, ear buds, all the cables you need, and a strange antenna connector adapter (design issue?) However, the low image quality sort of negates the desire to to view external media on it.
- It plays some basic multimedia files such as MP3, AVI and Divx. Tested some AVI and MP3 files from a SD card, and most worked well. Surprisingly rmdb files also worked (Real Media), though some MP4 didn't (as encoding methods in MP4 varies quite a bit). Despite woefully underdeveloped and unintuitive playback controls (a bit easier with the remote's directional button layout; no FF/REV for mp3 playback), it is nevertheless somewhat useful even without antenna.
- It plays pictures in JPEG format from your external media such as SD card or a USB drive, and has a simple slideshow option. However it only offers to display in either 4:3 or 16:9 format display ratio, manually set via the menu--no auto adjustments or cropping available--thus distorting any picture that isn't in one of these ratios you selected. It therefore dashed my hopes of using this as a make-shift picture frame.
-volume can get to be fairly loud, if tinny in quality, without sounding broken.
-it is fairly portable, with batteries that lasted over 100 minutes.
-build quality is not bad, although a bit heavy. It feels solid, if not expensive.
Cons:
-The screen resolution is simply too low. I think all those connectivity features would have been more useful only if viewing movies or pictures on the screen is worthwhile at all. As it stands, the resolution is probably lower than the back of your digital camera, but at 7" instead of 3" or 4". That means serious pixelation, rendering all picture viewing a pointless exercise as details turned into mosaics. To put it into perspective: captions from TV programs cannot even be rendered completely, there will be missing or blurred lines such as the - in H, etc. This is indicative of a very cheap LCD panel. Despite the high contrast and saturation, it is only barely acceptable for casual TV viewing but not much else.
-horrible control layout. There isn't a whole lot to control, really, as features like screen rotation will probably never be used. Yet even selecting channels and adjusting volumes can get confusing, never mind going into menus (and it has a "setup" button as well as a "menu" button, to add to the confusion). The menu has a directional navigation scheme, but the controlling buttons are laid out linearly. What's more, there are no directional icons next to those buttons to tell you, for example, what > on the menu really corresponds to in a button; you just have to figure it out by trial and error. To make matters worse, those buttons are laid on top of the unit instead of in front of it. I think it's almost an exercise in anti-ergonomics. I don't think anyone would ever get used to this, if they don't give up in frustration first.
-adapter for antenna. Not that it should need one, as it's just a threaded vs unthreaded converter. However, the unit was designed with an opening that's just small enough to need the adapter for slightly larger threaded antenna connectors. Something that, at least appears to me, could have easily been avoided at the design table.
-another idiosyncratic design is the need of two lithium batteries of DIFFERENT sizes. I can understand the need of two batteries to prolong operation time, but why two different sizes? While it probably doesn't affect anything, and that I may never get a replacement batteries set, I couldn't help but wonder about how they approached other design decisions.
-There seems to be some room to make the unit smaller and lighter, such as the huge bezel area to the right and the bottom of the screen. I think it would look and feel much better for it.
-ATSC isn't designed for mobility, so that it can't be viewed while the car is moving. However that's not the TV's fault per se.
The TV works, especially how the reception is good for something this portable. I can easily think of using it for camping or emergency situations. However, the low resolution LCD seems like a serious mistake--it feels handicapped by cost cutting at the most crucial component; it's a fact made more regrettable when so many connectivity and decoding options are offered for external media viewing. I honestly wouldn't pay what they are asking for this product ($100) at the time of this review. In fact I am not even sure if I would get it at a bargain, especially with increasing competition in this segment. Despite being "functional", it is just an example of incomplete product development and half baked ideas that should have stayed at the drawing table quite a bit longer before making it to the assembly lines.
excellent TV... Август 15, 2010 Roy Smoot (Avondale Estates, Ga USA) During our last power outage, I realized our old battery TV would not work, so I got this one to replace it. I could not believe how light weight and what an excellent picture and sound! I forgot to pull in the antennae to begin searching for the signal and once that was done I got more channels than I needed. Also got the docking station to run on AA batteries if needed. So I got the case that Amazon sells, charged the batteries and added to our Emergency kit.
We didn't need all the other options that the menu offered, so ours it purely for the TV part and using as part of our Emergency kit.
Good value 7 inch portable digital TV with average LCD/image quality. check out the slimmer 9 inch version as well. Юли 14, 2010 Sidarta Tanu (Richmond, VA USA) 1 от 2 намериха ревюто за полезно
Tivax HiRez7 Portable 7-Inch Digital Widescreen TV is a decent portable TV with a reasonable price. The ability to receive over the air digital signal is the main feature, and this TV managed to get most of the channels that I get from my other TV. The LCD quality/screen resolution is average (it's nowhere near a phone/iPhone or a regular laptop/netbook LCD quality, but then again it doesn't cost as much). The image Color and contrast are good however. And this TV is watched from a reasonable distance (i.e. not too close, like farther than 2 feet), the average quality LCD is not too noticeable. Overall, this is a good product with a decent price. In my opinion, this TV is positioned to be a value 7 inch TV screen, and I think they achieved it.
Pros:
1. Decent image color and contrast
2. Decent digital signal reception (but will vary depend on where you are)
3. Decent sound
4. Nice 7 inch screen (much better than 5 inch TVs/screen)
5. Battery last 2 hour (and can be extended with additional battery on docking)
6. Car adapter, external antenna, headphones and remote control included
7. Built in SD memory card reader, USB port, and TV stand
8. can be used to view photo, music or video (e.g. JPEG, MP3, AVI, MPEG 1/2/4, and DivX)
9. Can be connected to cable, DVD player, or gaming console
10. Reasonable price
Cons:
1. Average picture quality (low resolution LCD panel), especially if you see from very close distance
2. Can be thinner profile (feels bulky though it's not heavy) and can be more solid build (the button feels a bit flimsy)
3. Antenna included isn't very good (signal reception not very strong)
4. Reception is bad/unstable when the TV is placed in a non-stationary object (e.g. moving car), but this is universal to digital TV
5. A lot of buttons and complex menu system can be challenging to navigate
6. Non standard antenna input jack (need additional adapter to use a different antenna)
7. Docking station that will improve sound (external speaker) and playtime (using 8 AA or 2 Li-Ion batteries) not included in the base package (Tivax HiRez7-DS Docking Station for HiRez7 Widescreen 7-Inch Digital LCD TV)
I would recommend you to also check out the Tivax 9 inch version which has bigger screen, but features slimmer profile and the price isn't that much more expensive.

Awsome sound you can actually hear going down the road!! Юни 29, 2010 Michael Countryman (pelzer, sc) 2 от 3 намериха ревюто за полезно
I received this Tivax portable lcd tv not expecting the sound qualty to be very good but was very surprised when I first turned it on and the volume was at max. Wow it was so loud you could hear it from one end of the house to the other and could also understand what is being said. It certainly blows my netbook speakers out of the water.
Next I tested to see how long the battey life was and it seemed to last just over two hours so not bad for the size of the unit. It charged up fairly quick but did not time how long.
The on screen menu was very easy to navigate through unlike some others have mentioned. Maybe my version is newer and they updated the menus?
The remote is easy to use and buttons are logicaly placed. Sometimes I did have to push the button twice to make it work but may just be me.
If you should take it on the road it comes with a magnetic mountable antenna that you can put on the roof of your car and seems to work great. The reception of the digital pitures was pretty good and pulled in several channels. I did not notice the channels fading in and out too much while driving.
The tv has a USB input so you can hookup your portable DVD player or MP3 player to it. It has a headphone input for quiet listining.
Another nice feature is the flip out stand so it can be laid back at angle.
The second most impressing thing about this unit was the price factor. They have finally come down in price enough to where I can justify buying it.
El Cheap o - For Emergency use only! Юни 23, 2010 rbhatta (Sunnyvale, CA, USA) Tivax HiRez7 Portable 7-Inch Digital Widescreen TV reviewed here is indeed an "ATSC" compatible digital TV which can receive OTA channels for free (Local Channels) and has some additional cool features that one might say "WOW", But before you get your hopes too high let me tell you that while the concept is cool to have ATSC tuner that can receive all Hi-def Digital Channels and SD Digital Channels and have capability to watch movies from a USB stick or SD/HC memory card or listen to MP3 music files the execution of those features are very poor due to bad programming and utterly poor ergonomics.
The Button layout is very confusing and next to impossible to get used to, When all the buttons have something or the other attached to it, for example VOL + and VOL - have navigation keys attached to it, There is a dedicated EXIT button from the MENU!!! You get the idea?
All those buttons that this TV has could have been reduced down to 5 buttons in a neatly organized navigational buttons but that would require some nice menu and programming on the device, but instead of that one has to fumble with tons of buttons and switches all over this TV just to get simple task done.
With so much of negativity in the first paragraph of this review you must be wondering does this TV even work? Well, After you have fumbled with buttons, got the antenna plugged in and finally made the attempt to scan the available channels in your area you do get a decent array of digital TV from local broadcasters depending on your location, I live about 40 miles from the nearest TV broadcast tower and I was able to pick up about 40+ digital channels.
The Scanning time for ATSC channels are relatively quick but getting all channels is beyond the expectations of that included antenna, but it does its job well and handles Multipath situation pretty well and the picture remains stable without dropouts or pixilation. But you cannot move the TV or be mobile with it, You need to keep it perfectly stable and still to view the channels without dropouts, that is simply the digital TV downside there is nothing one can do about it.
Well, this is a poorly constructed unit, The Picture Quality is mediocre at best when viewed at close distance, But if viewed from 2-3 feet your eyes cannot make out much of a difference and the picture looks pretty good, It is almost like Standard Quality TV as the LCD resolution is poor and the Menu is poor, the Sound quality is tinny and quality of components are mediocre at best.
PROS
[+] It is a Portable 7-Inch ATSC LCD Digital TV
[+] Comes with full array of accessories and cables
[+] Can Display pictures and Low-res Movies from USB Stick
CONS
[-] Poor Button Layout and ergonomics
[-] Poor On-screen Menu
[-] Very low LCD resolution
[-] Quality of materials are mediocre at best.
The included Li-Ion Batteries (You need two batteries to run this unit) gives you about 100 minutes to 105mins max of viewing time depending on the LCD brightness that you set, The on-screen battery low warning does not go away and covers the center of the screen telling you that the batteries are going to run out in 10seconds but stays there for more than 15-20 mins of the last remaining juice of the battery (Again Poor Programming of the unit)
Of the cheap variety of Digital TV, the Haier HLT71 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV is much better than this one and a whole lot cheaper too!
I would not recommend buying this at retail price, If you really need to buy this, Buy it when it is on-sale and if you can live with all the quirks that this device has to offer it is still a useable portable Digital TV for emergency use only, Do not consider this unit for any viewing pleasure whatsoever. - Not recommended.
