The sound of these are much better than regular computer speakers, they're certainly not real studio monitors, but then again, real studio monitors are at least $300 each. M-audio has excellent customer service; one of the cables was faulty, and they replaced it ASAP.

These sound ok but have extemely harsh highs and the left speaker housing the amp gets super hot which is definitely not good at all decreasing the life of the electronics inside.I have electronics experience so I opened mine up to see how they can be modified.Naturally,not much can be done considering the size of the circuit boards.
Short story: I paralleled the electrolytics in the crossovers with low priced audio film caps I had on hand,did the same for the power caps for better filtering of the ac,replaced the supplied thin gauge speaker wire used to connect both speakers together with 14 gauge I had on hand.The amp runs a little cooler,highs are more pronounced and cleaner,mids and bass are tighter and cleaner with more slam.
I gave them 5 stars anyway as in stock form for the price they still sound better than any other speakers in the $100.00 price range and are perfect for sound hooked up to my blu ray player.Just dont leave them on too long due to the heat problem from the class ab amp.

The second I powered these up, I became a believer. It does make a huge difference to have monitors rather than regular speakers. All of want our home studios to be the best that they can be, but, a lot of times we make do, with something else. I purchased these to use with my iMac based recording set up.
The M Audio AV 30's really put out! I was afraid they were going to be just a little less than what I wanted in performance, but, they were in my budget.The sound is no less than awesome! They feature a bass switch on the rear to enhance the lows which really makes a difference.
I prefer the use of smaller monitors (hence the AV 30's), along with a subwoofer (in my case a Yamaha) as apposed to larger monitors with no subwoofer..
I am blown away at the sound of the AV 30's, they are a very good place to start. 5 Stars

Hello this is my 1st Review on Amazon for my M Audio Studiophile AV 30. After a lot's of my hard research review about 2.0, 2.1 and 5.1 best speakers ....finally I decided on the M-Audio Studiophile AV30 Professional Reference Speakers for my home studio. These M-Audios are outstanding, excellent well balanced sound, crystal clear quality, this speaker are good enough to serve as a pair of audio production monitors, look no further. These are fantastic speakers with a beautifully accurate sound. This is an ideal purchase if you care about accurate audio reproduction. Highs, lows and mids sparkle. I'm happy with this speaker even I can connect this Speaker with my LCD TV also. I really enjoying while watching movies, listening all kind of songs.Whenever I play music I feel that I was there, I was listening a Live show.
I highly recommended to everybody close your eyes and buy it. who are a music lover then go for this speaker M Audio Studiophile AV 30.
Even I tried so many Speaker such as....
1.Bose companion 2 and Bose companion 3.
2.Logitech Z2300.
3.Altec Lansing VS 4121.
4.Creative Inspire T20 and T40.
5.Logitech X540
But comparability between all these Speaker the only one thing is missing (Sound Quality).
I tried for M Audio Av 40 also even I like it much more.
But i want to save my $$$ in this Bad Economy.

I bought these desktop speakers to free up some floor space. My previous Logitech 2.1 Z2300's subwoofer was enormous, but sounded great. I wanted a pair of desktop speakers that could sound as good as the Z2300, but without the enormous subwoofer. The AV30s definitely fit the bill. In fact, I would say they sound much better (they don't lack in the bass department - there's plenty of range). This pair of speakers prompted me to want to go back and listen to my entire collection all over again. Highly recommended
If you have a little extra cash and some spare desk space, I'd opt for the AV40s. They have more power, but I don't think you'd really fret over the AV30s unless you were planning on cranking them, which in my opinion is kind of an excessive attribute of a desktop speaker. You're not going to want your face blown off when you're doing your work. But I guess its nice to have.
